Amal Clooney Pulled Off a "Dangerous" Surprise for George at His 65th Birthday Party

Amal and George Clooney shared how Amal surprised George with a very unexpected present for his 65th birthday.
The lawyer reportedly arranged for some of their friends to pose at his party as waiters.
"It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65 because you could drop," George joked.
George Clooney doesn't always like surprises, but that didn't stop his wife, Amal Clooney, from arranging quite the elaborate shock to mark his 65th birthday on May 6. A few days later, on May 11, the pair made an appearance at the King's Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration at London's Royal Albert Hall, where Amal revealed that she had pulled out all of the stops for George's birthday party.
“I just surprised him on his birthday, actually with a number of things that…” the lawyer told British Vogue on the red carpet.

George chimed in, “Yeah, she had friends of mine show up posing."
Amal explained they were “posing as waiters.”
George then joked, "It’s a dangerous thing to surprise someone when they turn 65 because you could drop. You know, that could be the end of you, so you have to be very careful when you surprise people.”

He finally added that he just about survived all of the surprises. “Yeah, well I’m still standing, barely.”

The pair were spotted enjoying George's birthday in St. Tropez last week. The day after his birthday, the pair were seen on a walk arm-in-arm and holding hands. According to the Daily Mail, they spent the day on their yacht before getting lunch at Club 55. Amal wore a playful beaded set from Emilio Pucci's spring/summer 2026 collection for the occasion.
For their outing in London the following week, Amal opted for something a little more formal, wearing a gilded Art Deco-esque gown, while George wore a navy suit.

Last year, George reflected that he wasn't "thrilled" with everything that comes with getting older. "My parents are dealing with all the things you deal with with age. They’re not thrilled about it, as you can imagine," he said to Esquire. "None of us are, I guess. I’m not thrilled with being 64.”
As he's gotten older, George has turned his focus away from work and towards spending time with his wife and their twins Alexandra and Ella. "I don't have to work all the time now. I want to work, but I don’t want to fill my life with work," he told CBS. "When I turned 60 Amal and I talked about it and I said, 'Look, I'm 60 years old, I can still play basketball with the boys, I'm still athletic,' I said, 'but in 25 years I'll be 85, and that's a real number.'" Now, the pair are focusing on balancing work and family. "Because at the end of your life you don't go, 'I wish I worked more.'"
