Many benefits come with being a Dior global brand ambassador, from wearing the House's latest looks, designed by creative director Jonathan Anderson, to testing their newest luxury beauty products first-hand before public release. As one of the faces of the latest gourmand-inspired Dior Addict perfume and Lip Glow Oil campaign, actress Anya Taylor-Joy understands these exclusivities better than most and has partnered with the iconic brand since 2021.

“I feel so fortunate to work with a house that combines so many of my loves. I have such a deep love and appreciation for history, craft, and innovation,” Taylor-Joy tells Bazaar. “I think the fact that they've been at the forefront for so many years is so admirable, and yet they still remain very true to their core principles. It's a love affair that I'm very grateful to be a part of.” The actress stars alongside Blackpink's Jisoo and singer-songwriter Willow Smith in the new campaign, each with a unique Dior Addict scent and Lip Glow Oil finish that they embody.

Taylor-Joy inspires the brand's grandiflorum jasmine absolute and fruity Peachy Glow scent, crafted by Dior perfume creation director Francis Kurkdjian, along with a matching juicy Lip Glow Oil in shade 041 Peachy, created by the creative and image director for Dior Makeup, Peter Philips. “I composed the Rosy, Peachy, and Purple Glow fragrances with a truly gourmand dimension and that touch of French je-ne-sais-quoi characterized by irreverence crossed with carefree, sensual youth,” explains Kurkdjian. “The Glow of Dior Addict is present in these three youthful perfumes tinged with passion, extravagance, and desire. They convey a unique energy that sees style, makeup, and perfume all converge.”

For a peek into the star's beauty philosophy, including her holy-grail Lip Glow shade, go-to for self-care, and unique fragrance application strategy, we chatted with Taylor-Joy ahead of some of Dior Addict's most anticipated launches. Keep reading for an exclusive look at her tried-and-true favorites.

Of all the roles you've played, which character's beauty routine are you most tempted to try in real life?

I've played a lot of characters covered in blood and dirt, so I would like to not steal their beauty routines. If I can never be covered in real blood, I will be very grateful, but probably Beth's [from The Queen's Gambit]. I think she had such fun looks. I love the '60s, so yeah, she had it down, especially towards the end.

It's interesting, because I had long blonde hair my whole life. I think in an act of teenage rebellion, when I was 19, I wanted to get as far away from myself as possible. And so, I chopped off all my hair with scissors and dyed it black, only to learn that if you are naturally very fair, when it grows out, it does look like you're balding—that wasn't the greatest. I think if I could have any hair color, I would probably have long red hair, but just the amount of maintenance on that is crazy. So, I do feel most like myself when I look like myself, and it's long and blonde.

JEANNE LUCAS FOR CHRISTIAN DIOR PARFUMSI totally hear you. Have you always dreamed of becoming a redhead?

I think people are drawn to what they don't have, and a lot of the characters in my favorite books had long, red hair or just a nice, rich hue. And as a color, I gravitate toward it a lot in my regular life—most of my notebooks are red, so yeah, I just love the quality it brings.

What is your holy-grail Lip Glow Oil shade?

Black Cherry. I have naturally quite pigmented lips, and I find if I want to make myself feel a little bit zhuzhier, I just sort of amp up what's naturally there and make it a little bit darker. I've always been a fan of darker lip shades, so Black Cherry is great.

Ooo, hmm. Honestly, I'm very scent-driven—I do find that a compliment that I will often give people is, “You smell really good.” Zendaya smells really good. I don't know how to describe the smell, but her perfume is perfect for her, and it lingers, which is really nice.

What are some of your non-negotiable sun protection essentials?

Has to be SPF 50—I get anxious if I'm wearing anything less. I was just working in the Middle East, so that was full-body every single morning. It's probably the thing I'm most consistent with in my entire life. I get really anxious if I'm not wearing sunscreen.

In terms of formula, do you prefer a traditional cream, an essence, or an SPF stick?

I've not been brave enough to try an essence yet, actually. Just a non-comedogenic or mineral sunscreen is best. But it has to be SPF 50, non-negotiable.

Do you have a guilty pleasure or addiction when it comes to beauty?

I wouldn't necessarily say it's that guilty, just the sumptuousness of a bath. I love my baths, and they're pretty much the only thing in my life that's dedicated me time. When I'm in the bath, I'm there to be alone with my podcast or my music, and my scents, and that's like my little cave situation. So, I wouldn't say it's that guilty because I just love it out and out.

Do you have a curated playlist that you listen to while soaking?

There is a playlist, and I have a podcast that I love to listen to in the bath. If you haven't listened to Fashion Neurosis with Bella Freud, that podcast is so brilliant for bath time. I also use it as a way of listening to what's going on in the stars: I have my tarot podcasts, I have my astrology podcasts, so it's just a time of introspection.

Please give us a breakdown of your red carpet beauty process and how you work with your team to create new looks.

We take our time. We like to have the room to experiment. So, it's probably like a two and a half hour situation. We're also all really good friends, and so we start dreaming about things quite early on; we have a bank of references that we're just waiting to use at the right time. And sometimes those can be like a year in advance, like I have a hairstyle for a press tour in a year that I cannot wait to debut, which makes me very excited. And then personally, I find that because of the public-facing nature of it, I both want to try my best to create an image that makes me feel confident, but also that sparks joy in people. I think, if it's an image that's going to be consumed, why not take the opportunity to try and delight people? And yeah, I find that making it kind of an art-forward thing makes the whole environment easier to digest for me.

Creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup, Peter Philips, gives Taylor-Joy some finishing touches on set. “Dior Addict Lip Glow Oil is instantly appealing, girly, and gorgeous. Its signature translucent shine is recognizable among all others, like an irresistible gourmand treat in luscious, flashy candy colors,” says Philips. JEANNE LUCAS FOR CHRISTIAN DIOR PARFUMSHave you recently tested any viral beauty trends?

I have to be honest, I am not that online, so I do not know what is terribly viral at this moment in time. I think probably the last one that I tested out was highlighter, because I had never included it as part of my routine, and I now find it exceptional, like how much of a difference it makes. There's also something that's vaguely childlike about it that I really enjoy. You know, you kind of put on your sparkles and then you walk out for the day.

How do you typically apply your highlighter?

I apply it to the cheekbones, and I do the little tip of my nose because I think it's so cute. It reminds me of, you know, The Whos in How the Grinch Stole Christmas? It reminds me of Cindy Lou Who, so that just makes me smile.

What is your Dior Addict application strategy? One spritz? Two? On your wrists, or on your clothes?

I'm a multiple spritz person. Sometimes I will layer scents, and I find that placement is quite important. At least for me, you want one spray of your woodier, muskier scent, and then the lighter one I like to put in my hair, because I find that holds a little bit better, and it creates a nice effect as you walk by. I love the old school glamour of putting it behind your knees. I don't know if it does anything, but it makes you feel, for lack of a better word, cunt, so that's where I put it.
