Becky Lynch has revealed that one of the most painful moments of her WWE career may have ultimately helped take her to an entirely different level. Looking back at Nia Jax’s infamous punch in 2018, Lynch now sees the injury through a very different lens.

Lynch discussed the moment during an appearance on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, recalling the SmackDown invasion of RAW ahead of Survivor Series 2018. Jax accidentally broke Lynch’s nose during the brawl, leaving her bloodied and unable to compete against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series.

The image of Lynch standing in the crowd with blood covering her face became one of the defining moments of her rise as ā€œThe Man.ā€ However, Lynch admitted she barely remembers what happened immediately afterward.

ā€œI have no recollection,ā€ Lynch said. ā€œI have like, little bits of a recollection. But none of that was my doing. That was all Nia. Thanks Nia.ā€

Lynch stressed that the gratitude was genuine. She believes the injury changed the direction of her career and may have helped lead her to the WrestleMania 35 main event.

ā€œNo, really, honest to God. It’s one of those things like, you never plan these things but it’s fate, destiny,ā€ Lynch said. ā€œIf that didn’t happen, maybe I don’t — if that doesn’t happen, I don’t get to the main event of WrestleMania, honestly.ā€

She continued, ā€œAnd that’s all thanks to Nia, and of course she felt terrible about it. But it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me at that time, you know? So, thanks.ā€

At the time, Lynch was essentially operating on instinct. She recalled waiting for the production light to turn off before walking backstage, where she realized something was seriously wrong.

ā€œI was out. I was out,ā€ Lynch said.

Lynch was replaced by Charlotte Flair against Rousey at Survivor Series. She later won the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble and reached the historic WrestleMania 35 main event against Rousey and Flair.

What started as a broken nose became a major turning point for ā€œThe Man.ā€ Sometimes wrestling writes the best storylines when the original script goes completely out the window.
