Charissa Thompson jokes that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's romance inspires her to ask her boyfriend for more love

Thompson and her podcast cohost Erin Andrews have long said they played matchmaker for the couple and encouraged Kelce to pursue Swift

“It's just been fun watching their love story from afar and upfront," Thompson tells PEOPLE

Charissa Thompson couldn't help but compare notes on love after watching Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's romance unfold in real time.

“It's just been fun watching their love story from afar and upfront. And I always say to my boyfriend after we see them, I'm like, ‘You should love me more.' Because they love each other so much and it's so beautiful to see and just I love seeing both of them happy,” the Thursday Night Football host tells PEOPLE at Amazon Upfronts on Monday, May 11.

Thompson, who along with her Calm Down podcast cohost Erin Andrews frequently vacations with Kelce and Swift, had previously shared how she found out about the star couple's engagement, a moment she described as “apropos.”

“I was at my ranch. I have a ranch where I rescue animals,” the 43-year-old sportscaster told PEOPLE last September.

“I don't normally have my phone with me all the time when I'm up there. It's one of the luxuries of being up there is going off the grid,” she continues. “But I happened to be in the kitchen and Erin and I were texting about it because we found out at the same time,” she said, referring to Andrews.

It was a full-circle moment for her and Andrews, who have previously joked that they were “responsible” for introducing Swift and Kelce after encouraging the NFL star to shoot his shot.

"So it was sort of apropos that we've obviously always advocated and hoped that they would fall in love and live happily ever after," she said, adding, "And it actually happened!"

Thompson previously shared during a May 2024 episode of The Tonight Show how she and Andrews played matchmaker for the couple.

The NFL commentators' words came after host Jimmy Fallon asked them, "You guys predicted Kelce and Taylor?"

"Yes Jimmy, we are responsible,” Thompson said.

She went on to explain how they encouraged Swift to date Kelce with a plea on their podcast, after the football player said on his own podcast that he wanted to meet the singer.

"We were advocating early on," she said on the show. "And he was very sweet and he commented and he was like, ‘I owe you guys big time,' so then of course everyone gives us credit. We, you know, we'll take the credit. But I just love both of them and I'm so happy to see them happy."
