Troy Aikman and ESPN have been called out by American podcast host Dan Le Batard, who grew frustrated listening to the color commentator on Monday Night Football.
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos 31-10 to wrap up Week 1 of the new NFL season, with Joe Buck and Aikman in the ESPN booth for the first time this campaign. The broadcast got off to a shaky start, with Buck addressing technical issues.
The Chiefs blew out a solid Broncos team, and Aikman was complimentary of the talent on display throughout the game, to Le Batard's annoyance. It comes after ESPN viewers urged the network to immediately remove Pat McAfee just minutes into his Monday Night Countdown debut.

Le Batard criticized Aikman's role as a color commentator for failing to address major storylines throughout the game. Instead, Le Batard accused him of repeating a cliche when discussing players and coaches.
"This is what Troy Aikman — and ESPN has the Super Bowl this year — this is what Troy Aikman said," Le Batard revealed on Tuesday's edition of The Dan Le Batard Show.
"'The Denver roster is as deep as any in football. '(Andy) Reid understands as much as anyone in football that they’ve gotta run the football.'

"'Pat Bryant had as good a camp as anyone in football.' 'Denver has as deep a wide receiver room as anyone in football.'

"'Denver has as good a secondary as there is in all of football.' 'Trent McDuffie is as good as anyone in all of football.'" Le Batard then added, "That was the first quarter," as he recited more statements from the second quarter.
"Second quarter: 'Denver is as good as any defense in football'... Denver plays as much man as anyone in football.'
"'Kenneth Walker is as patient as anyone in football.' 'Riley Moss gets targeted as much as anyone in football.'
"'Denver is as good an offensive line as there is in football.' 'Vance Joseph is as good a defensive coordinator as there is in all of football.'
"'Sean Payton is as good a play-caller as there is in all of football.' 'Courtland Sutton is as good as anyone in football winning one-on-one.'"

Le Batard then said, "I went back and wrote it, I didn’t believe it. I’m like, that can’t be how I’m hearing this. I’m listening passively … like, am I hearing this right? Is this what’s happening here, where it’s just, everyone in this game and the next game and everyone Aikman does is as good as anyone in football?"
Aikman is in the final year of the five-year, $90 million contract he signed with ESPN in 2022. Aikman is set to call the Super Bowl in February, but has no plans to leave ESPN despite a delay in contract negotiations.
It comes after Terry Bradshaw snapped at a FOX NFL Sunday co-star who corrected him live on air.
