Dutton Ranch has a new showrunner for season 2

Feehan, who is credited as the show's creator and an executive producer on season 1, stepped away before the show premiered in May
Somebody new is taking the helm of Dutton Ranch for season 2.
On Tuesday, June 30, Paramount+ confirmed that Benjamin Cavell will step in as showrunner and executive producer following Chad Feehan's exit. Feehan, who is credited as creator and executive producer of season 1 of the Yellowstone spinoff series, departed the series ahead of its premiere last month, PEOPLE previously confirmed.
Among Cavell's credits are creating SEAL Team, creating MGM+'s The Institute and co-creating The Stand, and he was a writer and co-executive producer on Homeland.
Dutton Ranch, which follows Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) as they relocate from Montana to Rio Paloma, Texas, was renewed for season 2 earlier this month, after a record-breaking premiere. The series amassed 12.9 million viewers worldwide in its first week, cementing it as the biggest original series launch in the streamer's history.
Season 2 will again be executive-produced by Hauser and Reilly, along with Cavell, David C. Glasser, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Christina Alexandra Voros, and Michael Friedman.

Prior to Dutton Ranch, Feehan had worked with Taylor Sheridan on 2023's Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Voros, who directed some of the show's episodes, said that Feehan "did an exceptional job building a world of adversaries for Rip and Beth to come up against in this new chapter of their lives."
“As far as the dynamics behind his departure and this is our first — we haven’t come out into the world yet, so any speculation about a season 2 is beyond my knowledge," she told ScreenRant. "I’m grateful to him and his team for creating a world for these characters to move into.”

Feehan has not commented on his exit from Dutton Ranch, but Hauser, 51, and Reilly, 48, shared their reactions in a recent interview.
"Showrunners change all the time. This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on," Hauser told The Hollywood Reporter during a conversation that was conducted after Feehan's departure but before the season 2 renewal.

Reilly, for her part, told the outlet of Feehan: "We finished this season together. It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making."
"We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that," she added.
The season 1 finale of Dutton Ranch premieres Friday, July 3 on Paramount+.
