Ellen DeGeneres shared a special message about a city that has made a lot of headlines lately, and why it's important to her. In an Instagram video, DeGeneres sent love, hope, and prayers to the people of Minneapolis, which she referred to as "the happiest city in America." The comedian and Emmy-winning daytime talk-show host is shining a light on a place that has been plagued by political unrest in recent weeks.

DeGeneres's message is humble and personal, as she speaks directly to the camera in a casual outdoor setting. DeGeneres shared that Minneapolis holds a special meaning for her personally, as it is the location she chose for shooting her final stand-up special. She explained that she chose the city for the happiness it is known for, and she found that to be true. "Everybody I encountered couldn't be more lovely," she reminisced.

The recording event that DeGeneres is referring to in Sunday's Instagram message is For Your Approval. It was recorded at Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in August 2024, and premiered on Netflix in September of that year. The show was DeGeneres's second Netflix special and served as a final comedy performance after her four-decade career in the business.

DeGeneres's tone is somber when referencing the people and events that are currently happening in Minneapolis. The city has become a hotspot for United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations this month. News from the area has included one citizen death involving an ICE agent on Jan.7, as well as continued hostile and violent situations throughout the region.

DeGeneres commends those who are exercising their right to peaceful protest, and says, "I'm sorry for anyone who has been hurt just for doing what you should be doing," in her video. She goes on to send love and prayers to all of those affected.

Ellen's message incited a wave of gratitude and support across the internet: -

"This is what everyone who has a mega platform should be doing!! Thank you for speaking upšŸ‘," one fan praised.

Another echoed the message of gratitude for her support, "As a Minnesotan, thank you 😊, it’s rough here 😢."

"Sending you love right back from Minneapolis, Ellen," thanked another.

"Thank you for speaking out, Ellen. Much love and respect to you. šŸ™ā¤ļø," chimed in another fan.
