Emma D’Arcy says Tom Cruise’s technical precision became a lesson on the Digger set. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor revealed watching Cruise on the monitor at every opportunity. D’Arcy plays Lina in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s satirical black comedy, which also stars Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and Sandra Hüller.
D’Arcy praised Cruise’s extraordinary spatial awareness and physical control during filming. “He’s so fluent in filmic language that he is able to translate specific kind of emotional or story beats via like tiny gesture,” D’Arcy said. As a result, the actor called Cruise a highly technical performer and found that approach refreshing to observe.
Furthermore, D’Arcy confirmed taking away several lessons from the experience. “I think technicality and like allowing that to be kind of the headline in one’s practice,” the actor said. D’Arcy also highlighted Cruise’s infectious energy as a major takeaway from the production.

Beyond technique, D’Arcy pointed to Cruise’s emphasis on enjoyment during the shoot. “He talks about fun a lot on set,” D’Arcy noted. According to the actor, this attitude helps create a collaborative play space for the entire cast and crew.
Meanwhile, Digger marks a rare comedic turn for Cruise, who plays dual roles in the film. He portrays Digger Rockwell, a wealthy oil tycoon whose company triggers a potential world-ending disaster. Additionally, Cruise plays Curtis Markson, the actor who portrays Rockwell in a satirical climate change play.
Iñárritu first conceived the project after completing The Revenant in 2015. Principal photography took place at Pinewood Studios from November 2024 through May 2025. Warner Bros. Pictures will release the film in the United States and United Kingdom on October 2, 2026.
