Sydney Sweeney appeared completely nude in the sports betting app Novig’s campaign, with sports equipment covering her private parts. Several female athletes and Olympians criticized the photos, saying they sexualized women’s sports.
Howard discussed the controversy on his show over the weekend and said he did not understand the criticism. Howard said, “I watched that TV commercial. Who the f**k is bothered by that?” Female athletes? I mean, she’s representing a gambling website, and I’m like, ‘This is great.’” He further added, “I think she’s attractive, and what, you’ve never seen anything advertised by half-naked women? Everything on this planet is half-naked women.”
Robin Quivers explained that the athletes were specifically upset about how Sweeney’s campaign represented women’s sports. Howard then responded, “’Her going around half-naked will ruin sports.’ No, maybe you betting on sports will ruin sports.” His comments received mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his view while others said he had “missed the point” of the criticism.

The discussion comes as Howard has faced other headlines surrounding his radio show. The U.S. Sun previously reported that he laid off dozens of employees shortly after re-signing with SiriusXM.
Howard addressed some of the criticism when he returned to his show on September 14 after an extended summer break. Responding to a headline about his wife Beth allegedly defending him, he said, “They interpreted it some other way. They wrote just something they wanted to write and said that she was defending me.”
“When did I ever need a defense?…If you think I’m a scumbag, you’re probably right.”
Meanwhile, The Howard Stern Show now broadcasts one day a week on SiriusXM, with a new video-based version airing on HBO Max.
