Jake Shane is a hater of Valentine’s Day
“I’ve never had fun with my friends on Valentine’s Day, ever,” the content creator tells PEOPLE
He reveals that his plans for the romantic holiday are to grab dinner with a couple of friends and “get really drunk”
Jake Shane is adamantly not a fan of Valentine’s Day.
While the 26-year-old content creator has a lot on his plate professionally — he’s making his Broadway debut in All Out: Comedy About Ambition, which opens at New York City's Nederlander Theatre on Feb. 17, before the third season opener of his podcast, Therapuss, drops on Netflix the next day, among other things — he tells PEOPLE that he’s probably going to grab dinner with two of his friends and “get really drunk” on the most romantic day of the year.
“I’ve never had fun with my friends on Valentine’s Day, ever,” says the influencer, who is currently not dating anyone. “It’s not like, ‘Yay, we’re single, and we’re having so much fun.’ It's horrendous. It's the worst day of the year.”

Shane is also adamant that Galentine’s Day, the Parks and Recreation-coined holiday meant to commemorate female friendships, “does not exist because we” — as in, the single people of the world — “cannot celebrate.”
“It’s not my holiday,” he says. “It’s not my religion. I don’t have a boyfriend.”
Boyfriend or not, Shane has plenty else to celebrate this month as he gears up to take the stage in All Out, fulfilling his childhood dreams of making it to Broadway. “I think that if I was standing next to 11-year-old me, he’d s--- his pants and faint at the same time,” Shane tells PEOPLE, reflecting on the milestone achievement. “That was his ultimate goal.”

When he got word from his agent that he had booked the role, Shane had just deboarded a flight and was standing in the airport. His agent had texting him throughout the flight, repeatedly asking when he’d be available to chat over the phone. “I was like, ‘What could this possibly be?’ ” recalls Shane.
As soon as he picked up the call, Shane learned that he’d be taking the stage alongside Nicholas Braun, Ray Romano and Jenny Slate when the show opens later this month. In a video capturing his reaction, Shane’s jaw drops as he learned that his middle school fantasies were becoming a reality.

It wasn't long before he revealed the exciting news to his BFF and former Therapuss guest, Kaia Gerber, who he also pressed for some advice. “I said, ‘Okay, how do I handle this? What do I do?’ ” remembers Shane. “She really laid it out for me — how to maintain a good work-life balance while doing it. She gave me great advice.”
Shane has also gotten a chance to trade sweet DMs over Instagram with Ashley Park, whose role he’s assuming after she had to drop out of All Out due to scheduling conflicts. “We follow each other,” says the performer. “She’s so sweet.”
