Matt Damon interrupted Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue during Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s Brooklyn show on Monday, Sept. 28
The 55-year-old actor brought Kimmel’s mother Joann and sister Jill into the audience gag before security escorted them out
The comedic rivalry began in 2005 and has continued through their attempted 2023 truce
Jimmy Kimmel came face-to-face with his longtime “rival” Matt Damon during the opening night of his run of shows in Brooklyn.
The actor, 55, made a surprise appearance during the Monday, Sept. 28 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! as Kimmel, 58, brought his talk show to Brooklyn for a week of shows on the East Coast.
In a clip of the funny moment posted on Instagram, Kimmel said in his monologue, “Tomorrow the baseball postseason begins with a three-game wildcard series between the bitterest of all rivals, the [New York] Yankees and the [Boston] Red Sox.”
Kimmel continued, “The series starts here in the Bronx and tonight—” before Damon interrupted, shouting from the audience, “Go Sox! Go Sox!” in support of his home team while wearing a Red Sox cap.
“You, the loser in the Red Sox cap, what is your name?” Kimmel asked, to which Damon replied, “You know my name.”
“I have no idea what your name is and honestly, I don’t care, because it’s time for the ceremonial throwing out of the first Red Sox fan,” said Kimmel. “Security, please remove this ‘Masshole’ from the theater.”
“Wait a minute, I’m not even trying to get on the show. I’m just here with family,” Damon said. “Security — wait, what family are you here with?” Kimmel asked.
“I’m here with your mom,” Damon said, as Kimmel’s mom, Joann, stood up next to him in the audience. “I’m also here with your sister,” he added as Kimmel’s sister, Jill, also stood up next to him.

“My mother and my sister? Get him out of here right now!” Kimmel reacted.

Security then ushered Damon out of the auditorium as Kimmel’s mom and sister followed him. “You don’t bring my mother and my sister with you,” Kimmel shouted from the stage.
“Listen, I’ll tell you what. You can keep me off the show; you can’t keep me out of your mom!” Damon responded.
Kimmel told the audience after Damon left, “You should all probably get tested for HPV (Human papillomavirus).”
Damon and Kimmel’s long-running “feud” began on Kimmel’s show back in 2005. The host made a tradition of closing out episodes with, “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time,” even though the actor was never scheduled to come on his show. In September 2006, Damon finally appeared as a guest, but Kimmel cut him off and ended the show, keeping their “feud” going ever since.
In March 2023, the pair attempted a truce, led by Damon’s friend Ben Affleck, but Kimmel reignited the “feud” a year later while hosting the 2024 Oscars. At the show, Kimmel played a clip showing Messi, the dog from Anatomy of a Fall, peeing on Damon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Kimmel announced earlier this month that he will host his talk show in Brooklyn during the final week of September. The special episodes mark the host’s seventh time broadcasting from the borough.
Kimmel is hosting the show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House from Monday, Sept. 28 to Friday, Oct. 2.
