Josh Hutcherson revealed he received a lot of backlash because he confessed he wasn’t a Taylor Swift fan, or a Swiftie. Hutcherson shared that this is exactly why he doesn’t want to be online. During a past interview with i-D Magazine, Hutcherson and his castmate Jordan Firstman discussed whether they were Swifties. Hutcherson replied, “I’m not a Swiftie,” prompting intense backlash from her devoted fanbase.

Josh Hutcherson talked about the hate he is getting from Taylor Swift fans for simply stating that he is not a Swiftie. Hutcherson previously discussed in an interview with i-D Magazine that he attended Swift’s Eras Tour in New Orleans because “my mom made me.” His co-star Jordan Firstman asked whether he’s a Swiftie, to which Hutcherson said no. However, he added, “Very much not. No shade, all respect, but definitely not.”

Post the interview, the Hunger Games star received intense backlash from the pop star’s devoted fanbase. A certain section of fans called for him to be cancelled on the internet for accepting VIP tickets when he’s not really a fan (via Variety).

In a new interview with GQ, the 33-year-old actor shared, “I got some heat because I did a photo shoot with Jordan, and Jordan asked me something about being a [Taylor Swift fan], and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m definitely not a Swiftie,’” he said. “All of a sudden it garnered this, ‘F**k him! He’s a monster! Destroy him! He’s short! He hates her because he’s short!’ ‘It’s just like, whoa! I think she’s great. Her music is not my kind of music. That is why I don’t want to be online.’”

Commenting further on his need to be away from social media, Hutcherson said, “I don’t need that energy. It’s counterintuitive to my job, because if people know you more, you can’t disappear into characters. They see you as, ‘Oh, that’s Josh.’ You know what I mean? So, if you’re a f***ing meme, people know you for the meme.”
