Lauren Cohan and Jake Epstein are heading back to summer camp for a love story that hits close to home. The Walking Dead star and the Degrassi alum will lead an indie rom-com inspired by its writers’ real-life friendship.
Lauren Cohan and Jake Epstein headline in Both Sides Now
Lauren Cohan and Jake Epstein will lead the ensemble cast of the indie romantic comedy Both Sides Now, as reported by Deadline. Eric Stoltz directs the film from a screenplay by Hailey Lustig and composer Robbie Roth. Production began on September 19 in Muskoka, Ontario, and is scheduled to wrap on October 20.
The story follows a group of lifelong friends approaching 40 who reunite at the Jewish summer camp where they grew up. They gather to celebrate the upcoming wedding of Eddie, played by Epstein. However, tensions rise when Eddie’s first love Erin, played by Cohan, arrives at the bachelor weekend unexpectedly.
The ensemble cast also includes Erich Bergen, Justin Chatwin, and Brian Norris. Bergen plays Lloyd, Eddie’s best friend who invites Erin to the celebration. The reunion forces the group to confront old relationships and unresolved feelings.

Co-writers Lustig and Roth share a unique connection that inspired the project. They were born in the same Toronto maternity ward on either side of midnight. The two grew up together at summer camp and have remained best friends for decades. “We share a history and a shorthand that made the process incredibly natural,” they said. The romantic comedy also features six original songs written by Roth and performed by the cast.
Stoltz praised the screenplay’s emotional depth and tonal balance. “This script made me laugh, made me a bit nostalgic, and then caught me off guard emotionally,” he said. He added that Roth’s songs are woven beautifully through the film’s world.
Three Birds Landing Productions independently finances the project, marking the company’s debut feature film. Lustig, Carrie Mudd and Erin Berry produce in association with Peacock Alley Entertainment.
