Caleb Williams was sidelined Monday night with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 2. But that didn’t stop the former No. 1 pick from finding a way to steal some attention.

Williams showed up for the Chicago Bears’ matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field looking almost unrecognizable.

Caleb Williams Draws Reactions With Strange Outfit

With no on-field performance to analyze, NFL fans took to social media to have some fun with Williams’ game-day outfit. The third-year quarterback tried to keep a low profile on the sideline in a hooded sweatshirt, hat and sunglasses.

The look might not have stood out as much during a day game. But wearing sunglasses under the lights made Williams look like he was trying to go completely unnoticed, and it had the opposite effect.

“Why is Caleb Williams dressed like he’s a lookout for a bank robbery?” one fan asked.

Another compared the look to an undercover police officer. “Why does Caleb Williams look like a cop on the sideline? Like, he’s trying to blend in, but it’s so obvious,” the fan wrote.

“Why is Caleb Williams dressed like he’s in a witness protection program?” a third fan joked.

Caleb Williams’ Style Has Drawn Criticism Before

For all the jokes, Williams also drew some criticism. It’s familiar territory for the Bears quarterback, who has frequently faced pushback for his style on and off the field, including painting his fingernails and wearing lip gloss.

“He’s the most extra player in the league,” one user on X wrote.

“He’s wearing the shades to hide his red eyes from crying,” another piled on.

Williams has embraced his style and is unlikely to change because of the criticism. Still, he’d probably prefer to let his play do the talking. He ranks No. 10 in PFN’s NFL QB Impact Score with an 81.0 grade, though that ranking could slip as other quarterbacks keep playing during his absence.

For now, Williams’ outfit gave social media a distraction while the Bears handled business on the field. With third-string quarterback Case Keenum under center, Chicago cruised to a 27-7 win over the previously unbeaten Eagles.
