Mariska Hargitay, her husband Peter Hermann and their kids have arrived at the 2026 Emmys
The actress is hosting this year’s awards show, making her the first woman to do so in 15 years
This season, Hargitay won Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Documentary/Nonfiction Program for My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay at the 78th Creative Arts Emmys
Mariska Hargitay is making Emmys history with her husband Peter Hermann and her kids by her side.
The Law & Order: SVU star is hosting television’s biggest night on Sept. 14, which according to The Hollywood Reporter makes her the first woman to host the awards ceremony in 15 years following Jane Lynch in 2011. And to mark the special occasion, the entire family dressed to the nines.
Hargitay, 62, who has won three Emmys for My Mom Jayne: A Film By Mariska Hargitay and Law & Order — appeared on the red carpet wearing a red sequin and fringe dress, matching with her 15-year-old Amaya Josephine, who wore a slightly shorter version with matching pointed-toe heels.
Meanwhile, Hermann, 59, and their sons — August Miklos Friedrich, 20, and Andrew Nicolas Hermann, 14 — wore matching black suits with bow ties.

It was in July that the actress and director announced she would be hosting the 78th annual ceremony, and she recalled her reaction to the offer on the Today show a month later.
“I was backstage, doing my play [Every Brilliant Thing], and I got a call. It was Pearlena [Igbokwe], who’s head of the network, and I thought, ‘Oh, I should answer this. Am I getting fired?’ ” Hargitay joked. “She asked me about it, and at first, I thought she was kidding. I actually thought she was kidding.”
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of her hosting gig, Hargitay said she leaned on plenty of people for guidance on how to lead the night.

She also told PEOPLE exclusively that hosting the Emmys the same year she received nominations is “more extraordinary than I have the words to express. I’ve always been so grateful to have dedicated my life to telling stories, and I feel more energized about the power of storytelling than ever before.”
Before attending television’s biggest night, Hargitay enjoyed a celebratory evening at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, where she, dressed in an Elie Saab strapless red gown, accepted wins for Outstanding Documentary and Outstanding Directing for a Documentary (My Mom Jayne).
“Who haven’t I turned to for advice!” she said. “Anyone vaguely wise-looking is fair game. A lot of old ladies and dudes with white beards from my trip to Europe this summer are still wondering who the crazy American lady is asking them about “… crushing the awards show? Que cosa?”

Hargitay and Hermann’s date night also comes shortly after the pair celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary. Hargitay, who’s starred in Law & Order as Detective Olivia Benson since 1999, met her man during season 3 of Law & Order, when Hermann was brought on for a guest appearance as defense attorney Trevor Langan. The two started dating shortly after filming wrapped, when Hermann asked Hargitay to accompany him to church.
After dating for two years, Hargitay and Hermann tied the knot on Aug. 28, 2004. Two years later, they welcomed son August Miklos Friedrich, then daughter Amaya Josephine, followed by son Andrew Nicolas in 2011.
She recently told E! News that she feels “blessed” in the love “department.” The secret to her and Hermann’s lasting love? “My new two favorite words are ‘disciplined curiosity.’ Really being curious about the other person and how they experience something and really listening,” she said.
