Matt Reeves will remain at Warner Bros. TV, providing more stability to the studio’s live-action Batman universe. The filmmaker has renewed his overall deal with the studio through his production company, 6th & Idaho, extending a partnership that originally began in 2020.

Reeves and 6th & Idaho will continue producing all of their television projects exclusively with Warner Bros. TV under the new agreement (via Variety). The renewal comes even as Warner Bros. Discovery’s corporate future remains murky, with a potential Paramount Skydance acquisition still lacking a clear timeline.

Warner Bros. TV Group chairman Channing Dungey praised Reeves’ storytelling instincts in comments to the outlet: “Matt has a true knack for getting into the psyche of his characters and he and his team have delivered some of the most compelling, thought-provoking stories over the years.”

The extended deal signals that more Batman-adjacent television could be on the way, building on the momentum already established. It also opens the door for Reeves to develop shows entirely outside the Batman universe, giving him possible creative room to explore fresh territory at the studio.

Matt Reeves’ production slate already spans a wide range of genres. His credits include a magical-realist medical drama for HBO Max, a one-hour sci-fi drama adapted from Dan Frey’s novel, a Rami Malek-led limited series about Buster Keaton, and an adaptation of Diane Cook’s novel about a dystopian wilderness experiment.

Moreover, the renewal fits into a broader pattern of stability moves at Warner Bros. TV. Earlier this summer, the division re-signed a major deal with John Wells, whose HBO Max medical drama has already picked up four Emmys and enters Monday’s ceremony as a frontrunner in the drama category. The studio’s roster of overall deals also includes heavy hitters like Greg Berlanti, Bill Lawrence, Chuck Lorre, Mindy Kaling, and the writing team of Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky. Warner Bros. TV has also been aggressive on the development front. Since January, the studio has secured 12 new series orders.

With this deal, more TV shows like Penguin have become possible, along with other series that Reeves could produce for the studio outside the Batman universe.
