Burgers are everywhere right now. Affordable ones that feel worth revisiting are much harder to find.
As Nashville restaurant prices continue to climb, the under-$10 burger has become something of a disappearing act.
What used to be standard now feels almost radical: a quality cheeseburger made with good ingredients without crossing into $15 or $20 territory.
For some restaurants, keeping a burger affordable means accepting tighter margins and relying on long-standing supplier relationships to make the numbers work. In other cases, it simply means deciding to keep food accessible.
At Redheaded Stranger, co-owner Bryan Weaver said relationships with suppliers like Bear Creek Farm and Gifford’s Bacon help make the restaurant’s $8 green chile cheeseburger possible.
"I’ve worked with both of them for over 10 years, between Butcher & Bee and Redheaded Stranger," Weaver said. "I think I get a pretty good price on the beef, which is a good starting point. There’s also very little waste."
The restaurant moves through enough bacon volume to help offset costs, too.
"So Gifford is willing to work with us," Weaver said. "Having good relationships with purveyors is a big part of being able to keep the price where it is."
Even then, he said the margins are slim.

"I wanted it to be sort of a diner, a neighborhood spot," Weaver said. "I kind of do want to keep it in the single digits."
That approach still resonates across Nashville. A great, affordable burger remains one of the fastest ways for restaurants to build loyalty and for diners to feel like they found a genuine deal in an increasingly expensive city.
Here are some of Nashville’s best burgers still holding the line at $10 or less.

Redheaded Stranger
Redheaded Stranger’s green chile cheeseburger has quietly become one of Nashville’s most reliable burgers. The combination of Bear Creek Farm beef, Gifford’s bacon, chopped Hatch chiles, American cheese and ranch on a Martin’s potato roll hits a sweet spot between smashburger nostalgia and New Mexico-style richness. At $8, it remains one of the strongest values in town. 305 Arrington St.

Fly Pelican Fly
Inside The Wash, Fly Pelican Fly serves a straightforward cheeseburger made with Bear Creek Farm beef, American cheese and secret sauce on a Martin’s potato roll. Normally $13, it drops to $9 during the restaurant’s daily “Flappy Hour” from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. 1101 McKennie Ave., Bay 6.
Dreamburger
Dreamburger, parked outside Vinyl Tap, specializes in classic smashburgers with deeply caramelized onions pressed directly into the patties. The signature $10 Dreamburger comes layered with American cheese, pickles and house sauce on a butter-toasted bun. Simpler burgers dip to $8, which is a downright steal. 2038 Greenwood Ave.

Turkey and the Wolf Ice House may be best known for its collard green melt, but the $9 "Mama Tried" burger deserves attention, too.
