Sara Foster still lives with her ex, Tommy Haas, two years after their split.

The pair, who were together for two decades and have two daughters, broke up in 2024.

"It's not for everybody, but there's something to be said about slowly transitioning," she said.

Sara Foster is opening up about her experience living with her ex, Tommy Haas, two years after their breakup.

The Nobody Wants Thisproducer and actress, 45, described her current dynamic with the former professional tennis player, 48, as “such an interesting” thing on a recent episode of the Let’s Be Honest podcast.

“I mean, he's a Florida resident, he's German, he is always on the road, he's in the tennis world,” Foster explained to host Kristin Cavallari. “He was a professional tennis player for 25 years… and that is, I think, that is his comfort level, is being on the road.”

Still, she noted it’s “nice” to be able to co-parent their two daughters — Valentina and Josephine — together when he returns home.

“We have breakfast when he's in town, we have breakfast and dinner with our kids every day,” she said. “And there's something to be said — it's not for everybody — but there's something to be said about slowly transitioning.”

Foster confirmed that she and Haas had gone their separate ways after 20 years together in November 2024. While speaking on Let’s Be Honest, she clarified that “nothing crazy happened” between them that led to their split, but that the pair had just “grow[n] differently” over the course of their decades-long relationship.

“I think I remember, he looked at me once and I was like, ‘Oh, he does not respect me anymore.’ You know what I mean?” she said. “And it's sort of like, once you can see someone looking at you with a certain eye, you're kind of like, ‘Oh God.’”

She went on to call the dissolution of their relationship a “collective shift” — and had nothing but positive things to say about Haas.

“This guy has got so much integrity, you will never meet anyone that has a bad thing to say about him,” she said. “He has real integrity. He's not a social climber. He's not a user. He likes who he likes, doesn't care who you are. He's a great guy.”

The actress admitted that their split was made even harder because they hadn’t gotten the chance to tell their daughters before the news broke in 2024.

“We had never actually sat down and been like, ‘This is how it’s gonna look, this is where I’m gonna live, this is where you’re gonna live, this is what we’re gonna do,’” she recalled. “We both, sort of, one day knew this is not what it should be anymore.”

She added, “Our kids don’t look at us with those eyes of, ‘This is what I hope to have one day.’ And that is not good. It’s not good when your kids are looking at other people’s relationships going, ‘That’s what I want.’”

Foster hesitated on sharing details about how they told their children about their split because they “didn’t handle it the way it should be handled” and didn’t want to pass off bad advice.

“There’s been a real beauty in doing it slowly for us,” she said instead. “I feel like the rug wasn’t pulled out for them.”
