Noel Gallagher revealed what he really thinks about "Wonderwall" becoming England's 2026 World Cup anthem

"It was a magical moment between the people and the players," he told The Sun in a Sunday, June 21 interview

Noel Gallagher has thoughts about an Oasis hit being used as a 2026 World Cup anthem.

After England triumphed over Croatia 4-2 on Wednesday, June 17 at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, 20,000 fans and players joined together to sing the Britpop classic "Wonderwall," per The Sun.

According to the outlet, captain Harry Kane and midfielder Jude Bellingham were among those who joined in the sing-along.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice called the experience "special."

"On the pitch after the game and we were just connecting with the fans and they were singing," he told The Sun, adding: "I think it's one of them moments — just a memory now — it's gone. You never get that moment back. Being in Dallas, singing Wonderwall. There's nothing like that first time."

In a Sunday, June 21 interview with The Sun, Noel, 59, revealed whether he thinks the 1995 hit should become England's 2026 World Cup anthem.

"'Wonderwall' belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players," he told the outlet. "Best of luck to everyone who's made the trip out there."

"Wonderwall" was released in 1995 as the fourth single from the band's sophomore album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? It received two Grammy nominations for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and Best Rock Song in 1997. The track peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's U.S. Alternative Airplay chart and at No. 2 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

In February, Noel reflected on the success of the 2025 Oasis reunion shows while backstage at the BRIT Awards, where he took home the award for Songwriter of the Year.

According to him, the "Champagne Supernova" band's gigs last year were "better than the '90s."

He added that the reunion shows with Liam Gallagher were "the most incredible thing that any of us have ever done."

"To come back after all these years, to get No. 1 albums and all that is pretty mad, but we loved every minute and every second of it," said Noel.

While he noted all of the shows "were amazing," it was the group's hometown ones in Manchester that were really memorable.

Noel said he was "kind of lost for words" and that "the gigs spoke for themselves."
