Off Campus stars Josh Heuston and Mika Abdalla surprised fans Megan Leong and Adrian Taddei at their wedding reception in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Aug. 22

The newlyweds praised the actors, who were dining downstairs, for taking the time to congratulate them

“They were incredibly sweet and kind, congratulating us on our marriage, chatting with us briefly, and happily taking a photo before heading back downstairs,” the bride and groom tell PEOPLE

A couple’s wedding went off script in the best way possible when two stars from Off Campus made a surprise appearance.

Unbeknownst to newlyweds Megan Leong and Adrian Taddei, as the two were celebrating their wedding reception on Saturday, Aug. 22, at The Loft at Earls Yaletown in Vancouver, British Columbia, Off Campus stars Josh Heuston and Mika Abdalla were dining just one level below them at the restaurant downstairs.

Two guests recognized the costars and real-life couple and asked the pair to surprise Leong, 29, and Taddei, 28, with wedding-day congratulations because the bride and groom are fans of their college hockey romance series. The actors were happy to fulfill the request.

About an hour later, in the middle of dinner, Leong went to grab a drink at the bar and was “completely shocked and excited” to see Heuston, 29, and Abdalla, 26, standing at the entrance to the reception.

“They had come upstairs just to congratulate us on our wedding and take a photo with us, even though they were enjoying their own dinner downstairs and absolutely didn’t have to go out of their way to do that,” Leong and Taddei tell PEOPLE. “Our interaction lasted a few minutes, and they were incredibly sweet and kind, congratulating us on our marriage, chatting with us briefly, and happily taking a photo before heading back downstairs.”

They continue, “What meant the most to us was how thoughtful they were — it was their night off, they were simply out having dinner together, and they still took the time to make two complete strangers’ wedding day even more unforgettable.”

The moment was even more special because Off Campus was filmed at the couple’s alma mater, the University of British Columbia.

Henry Fang, founder and principal coordinator of Eventful Weddings + Events, shared a video of the sweet surprise interaction on Instagram on Friday, Sept. 11. The reel has since gone viral with millions of views.

“@mika.abdalla and @jheuston from @offcampusonprime stopped by this wedding and the bride had no idea they were coming. 👀,” he wrote in the caption. “This is what I mean when I say anything can happen on a wedding day. You just need the right person there to make sure the day keeps moving no matter what. 💛.”

The official Amazon account commented, “The surprise wedding guests!”
