Once-canceled Coyote vs. Acme just proved every executive who shelved it dead wrong at the box office. The Looney Tunes hybrid finally hit theaters this weekend and landed a top-five finish that silenced all of its doubters.
Coyote vs. Acme box office opens only behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Ketchup Entertainment’s Coyote vs. Acme opened to an estimated $15.5 million domestically this weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. The live-action/animation hybrid debuted in second place behind Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The latter earned $22 million in its fifth weekend, bringing its domestic total to $891 million.
Coyote vs. Acme played across 3,575 theaters during its opening frame. The film’s $15.5 million haul marks the biggest opening in Ketchup Entertainment’s history by a wide margin. It stayed ahead of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which earned $14.3 million in its seventh weekend. Sony’s Insidious: Out of the Further took fourth place with $10.1 million in its sophomore frame. Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars rounded out the top five with a disappointing $8 million debut.
Warner Bros. controversially shelved the completed film in November 2023 as a tax write-off. Ketchup Entertainment later acquired the worldwide rights for a reported $50 million before spending an additional $10 million on marketing. The film currently holds a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 77 on Metacritic.

Dave Green directed the film, which stars Will Forte as a struggling attorney representing Wile E. Coyote. John Cena, Lana Condor, and Tone Bell also star in the adaptation of Ian Frazier’s story. The original production budget sat between $70 million and $72 million.
Coyote vs. Acme’s worldwide total currently mirrors its domestic gross at $15.5 million, with no international numbers reported yet. Ketchup Entertainment’s estimated break-even point sits around $120 million, given that theaters retain roughly half of all ticket sales.
