Orlando Magic Suffer Historic 52-Point Loss to Raptors, Worst in Franchise History

The Orlando Magic struggled to keep up with the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, suffering a tough 139-87 defeat. The Magic's star players struggled to score against the challenging Raptors defense. Their best player, Paolo Banchero, only had nine points in the night on 3-for-14 shooting from the field.
The entire team underperformed offensively, shooting only 37.8% of their attempts from the floor. The Magic also did not find their stroke from beyond the arc, shooting only 23.7%. Desmond Bane was the only player who scored more than 15 points for Orlando.
After their heartbreaking defeat, it was announced that the Magic made an unfortunate history.

Jason Beede of Sentinel Sports posted on X that the Magic's 52-point loss against the Raptors became the franchise's worst loss. The previous record was their 47-point loss against the Chicago Bulls on April 10, 2017.
Following the defeat, head coach Jamahl Mosley took ownership of not getting his players prepared for what they could face.
“I’ve got to do a better job of preparing them for what they were going to see tonight,” Mosley said. “We talked a little bit about it, but probably not enough. I’ve got to have them prepared for the physicality of the game. Prepared for how much they were gonna grab, hold and get us off of our spots. That’s on me… I gotta to a better job for this group there.”

However, Mosley doesn't think that the loss should be entirely on him. When Beede asked him in the locker room if the loss falls on him or the players, he told the beat reporter that it's all on them.
Aside from the team's offensive struggles, the Magic also had a challenging night defending the basketball. They were inactive on that end and only finished with four steals and one block. Compared to the Raptors, who had 20 steals and three blocks, Orlando was passive. They also had 27 turnovers, and Jamal Cain led the Magic with six.
In the first quarter, the Raptors established an early dominance with a 31-0 run. The run started with 5:15 left in the opening period until the 10:14 mark of the second quarter. It started with the Magic leading the game, 20-16, and the run ended with Toronto's commanding 43-20 lead.
According to reports, it was the largest run since the 1997-98 season. The Magic will face the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, hoping to bounce back from their historic loss.
