Patrick Clancy’s new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, praised her husband, calling him “the most selfless father” as the pair spoke to 60 Minutes

“I don’t understand how the story has been so twisted,” she said

The interview, set to air on Sunday, Sept. 20, marks the first time that Patrick has spoken out since his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial

Patrick Clancy’s new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, called her husband “the most selfless father” as the pair sat down for a joint interview with 60 Minutes.

In a clip shared on X, Danis, an infertility specialist, insisted, “I don’t understand how the story has been so twisted.”

“But I would hope people know that Pat is, as I said before, the most selfless father, and supportive partner,” she added.

Danis, who married Patrick in April, said, “I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

The interview, set to air on Sunday, Sept. 20, marks the first time that Patrick has spoken out since his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial.

In January 2023, Patrick discovered that his former wife had strangled their three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan — in the family’s Duxbury, Mass., home before she attempted suicide.

At the time, Lindsay — who used exercise bands to kill the children before cutting her wrists and jumping out of a window — had sent Patrick to run an errand.

When Patrick returned to the property, he found Lindsay in the backyard and called 911. While still on the phone, Patrick entered the home and found that the children had been strangled.

Amid the trial, conspiracy theories and rumors surfaced, claiming that Patrick was somehow involved in the deaths of his three young children.

Howard Cooper, an attorney at Todd & Weld who represents Patrick, released a statement refuting the claims earlier this month.

“Over the past months, Patrick Clancy and his family have been subjected to a relentless, escalating and destructive defamation campaign,” Cooper previously told PEOPLE. “This campaign of misinformation has been launched and promoted by minor celebrities, so-called influencers and outright conspiracy theorists who appear intent on boosting their own social media profiles and potential profit by publishing what they know to be outright falsehoods that Patrick was somehow involved in the death of his young children and other vile claims.”

The legal team concluded their statement by declaring, “enough is enough,” and adding that law enforcement has been notified about the “baseless falsehoods.”

Cooper added that Patrick has faced “real life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life,” as a result of these claims.

During his 60 Minutes interview, Patrick also explained how he still talks to his deceased children. “I ask them for help, all the time,” the father said.

Lindsay is charged with murder but has pleaded not guilty by lack of criminal responsibility.

The defense has argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she killed her children and that she had been failed by medical providers after seeking help for mental health concerns.

The closely watched trial ended in a mistrial after the jury said they were deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict.

After the trial concluded, some jurors indicated that they were split 11-1 in favor of acquittal.

Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will retry the case.

Patrick’s full 60 Minutes interview is set to air on CBS on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. Eastern.
