Pete Davidson gives an update on where he and Ariana Grande stand eight years after ending their whirlwind romance.

“I think Ariana’s f---in’ cool and immensely talented and an awesome girl,” the comedian gushed.

Davidson stars in the upcoming David Leitch-directed film How to Rob a Bank.

Pete Davidson is looking back at his whirlwind romance with Ariana Grande.

The Saturday Night Live alum reflected fondly on his former fiancée, who wrote the breakup anthem “Thank U, Next,” about him.

“There should be a group for us,” Davidson told Variety, referring to exes who appear to be the subject of songs. “Thank U, Next” name-drops Davidson, along with other former flames of Grande’s. “Even almost got married, And for Pete, I’m so thankful,” she sings of Davidson.

“It’s something that comes up once in a while. But I think Ariana’s f---in’ cool and immensely talented and an awesome girl. We’re not texting or whatever, but we’re cool,” added the comedian, whose latest project is the David Leitch-directed film How to Rob a Bank.

Davidson and Grande reportedly met in 2014 after he made his debut on SNL and she was the musical guest. They began dating in May 2018, not long after they looked cozy at the Billboard Music Awards earlier that month.

A few weeks into their relationship, Davidson proposed to the musician. That October, months after their relationship began, Davidson and Grande called it quits. “It was way too much too soon,” a source for Grande told Entertainment Weekly’s sister site PEOPLE at the time, adding, “It’s not shocking to anyone.”

Weeks later on Nov. 3, Grande dropped “Thank U, Next,” which took Davidson by surprise. That same day, during an SNL Weekend Update segment, Davidson addressed their breakup, telling the audience that it’s “nobody’s business.”

“The last thing I will say is I know some of you are curious about the breakup, but the truth is it’s nobody’s business, and sometimes things just don’t work out, and that’s okay,” Davidson said at the time.

“She’s a wonderful, strong person, and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.”

In 2025, Davidson made a rare comment about Grande’s performance in Wicked. “I hope she wins the Oscar, I hope she takes the gold,” Davidson told Page Six. “When we see each other, which is few and far between, because we’re not in the same circles, it’s all love.”

He added, “I’ve had some pretty adult relationships with some pretty amazing women, and when it’s ended it’s been cool.”

Elsewhere in his conversation with Variety, Davidson seemed frustrated that his dating history — which includes Grande, Kim Kardashian, and Elsie Hewitt, with whom he shares daughter Scottie — has been more of a focus than his career. “It’s been over a decade. My work and my relevance is super overlooked, and it’s confusing to me,” he said.

“I’m still only 32, but I have really crazy credits: nearly a decade at SNL; I hosted a year after I left; I worked with [Craig] Gillespie and [James] Gunn and [Doug] Liman and Leitch and Judd [Apatow] and Edie [Falco] and [Joe] Pesci.”

How to Rob a Bank hits theaters on Nov. 13.
