The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to welcome new residents into their $14.5 million California mansion, a source told Page Six. “No one is moving in,” the insider said. “There are folks still maintaining the property.”
The update follows the family’s relocation. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have lived in the UK since late August, setting up base in the Cotswolds area outside London. An insider previously told the outlet that being closer to King Charles was a key reason for the move. That includes Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
The couple bought the 18,000-square-foot Montecito estate in 2020. It has nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. Outdoor features include a tennis court, a tea house, a pool, rose gardens, and a children’s cottage. There is also a two-bedroom guest residence. Page Six notes that the property is gated and private, which was a major selling point at the time of purchase.

Talk of a sale has followed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito home since the move. The source also reports ongoing speculation that the non-working royals could sell or rent it out. In August, an insider revealed that there were talks of a sale, with $600,000 in mortgage payments and taxes cited as a major factor. The latest source says that is not happening for now.
Settling into British life has brought some bumps. The outlet reports that the couple pulled their children from their first school two days into term because of commute issues with their security team. Meghan’s personal phone number was also leaked in a WhatsApp group chat with parents.
Harry has since returned to public appearances. At an Invictus Games charity event, he said the children are “happy” at their new school. He added, “It’s been great to be back on British soil.” Meghan, meanwhile, has not been spotted at any major public event so far.
