Prince Harry and King Charles will not see one another during the monarch’s upcoming U.S. state visit
A source tells PEOPLE that Harry “wouldn’t ask” for a meeting during his father’s tightly scheduled state visit
The pair are not believed to have seen each other since Harry’s September 2025 trip to the U.K.
Prince Harry and King Charles won't be meeting up when the monarch visits the United States in late April, PEOPLE understands.
The father and son will not see one another during the King’s upcoming state visit alongside Queen Camilla, with any suggestion they might carve out time together proving unrealistic given the tightly choreographed nature of the trip.
"When you’re talking about a state visit, every minute is accounted for — especially when it’s the King traveling as the invited guest of a head of state," a source tells PEOPLE.
The source adds that Harry would not be expected to press for a meeting under those circumstances, noting that there is an understanding on both sides.
"Harry knows how things are and wouldn’t ask for that either under these circumstances," the source says.

On March 31, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles, 77, and Queen Camilla, 78, will pay a state visit to the U.S. in April to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.
In a statement the same day, President Donald Trump shared that the King and Queen will visit from April 27 to 30, with the trip set to include a state banquet at the White House on April 28.
"I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect," Trump said.
Though they’re not expected to see one another, the visit will bring the British monarch to the country where his younger son resides.
Prince Harry, 41, and his wife, Meghan Markle, 44, have lived in Southern California for six years after stepping back from their royal roles in the U.K. in 2020. The couple now resides in Montecito with their children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from royal life laid bare a deep rift within the family. In the years since, Harry has continued fighting to reinstate security for himself and his family when they travel to the U.K.
Prince Harry has returned to Britain several times since 2020 for court proceedings and charity work, and he reunited with his father in September 2025.
While speaking to The Guardian during a 2025 trip to Ukraine following his visit with King Charles, the Duke of Sussex said he'd like to bring his children back to visit his native England.
"Yes, I would. This week has definitely brought that closer," Harry told the outlet when asked whether he hoped to take his children there despite the ongoing issues surrounding his security arrangements.

When father and son got together in London in September 2025, it was the first time in 19 months they'd seen each other in person. They spent about an hour together over a private tea at Clarence House, the King and Queen’s London residence.
The meeting marked their first in-person reunion since February 2024, when Harry made a whirlwind trip to see his father days after King Charles announced he was undergoing cancer treatment — which is understood to be continuing into this year.
The pair are believed not to have seen one another since their September 2025 meeting, though there is speculation they could reunite when Harry returns to the U.K. this summer for engagements tied to the Invictus Games.
Prince Harry is expected to be back in Britain in July 2026 for the one-year countdown to the Birmingham 2027 Invictus Games. It is not known whether Meghan and the couple’s children will join him for the trip.
