Bruce Campbell has opened up about one of his early experiences with Hollywood Studios and creative freedom. He said that he was originally kicked out of a movie that eventually never got made, leaving a "sour taste" in his mouth.
The American actor is currently touring with his independent movie, Ernie & Emma. He has written, produced, and directed the movie with his wife, Ida Gearon, and he also stars in it. It is about a salesman named Ernie Tyler, who travels to different locations to scatter his dead wife's ashes, as she specified.
In an interview with Fox News, published on September 27, Bruce Campbell spoke about wanting to make such an independent movie. He said that he had a bad experience with the Hollywood Studios once, saying:
"The first studio film I ever did, I got kicked out of the lead. The movie was re-edited, retitled and never came out. So, the taste in my mouth from studios is very sour. It was time to be unbridled in my life."
Widely known for his role in the Evil Dead horror series, Bruce Campbell spoke about wanting to have more freedom in the movie-making process. He explained:
The very first movie we did, ‘Evil Dead,’ was the only other movie I've ever done free and clear of the studio system. So, I liked the taste of it early on. I wanted to do something like this for a long time, and my wife finally said, ‘Quit talking about it. Let's do it. Let's pull the trigger. Let's make this movie."
This movie comes at a crucial time for Campbell, who announced in March this year that he has been diagnosed with cancer. In an interview on The Adam Carolla Show this month, he said doctors told him he has about five years to live.

Ida Gearon is a costume designer and has co-produced Ernie & Emma with Bruce Campbell. Along with motivating him to make this movie, she also helped him shoot it in their home state of Southern Oregon. In his interview with Fox News, the Evil Dead actor said:
"She goes, ‘Bruce, we should shoot in Oregon. You should sleep in your own bed. You should [be having lunch] at the house’. And so, I did, and it was a very bizarre experience, but I'll never go back now."
"Best part of working with my wife was that, for once, we didn't argue. We argue a lot and when we made the movie we never argued once because we had a singular goal, singular vision. Boy, my wife, she is rock solid. She's a good human being from A to Z. I trust her," he added.
Bruce Campbell and Ida Gearon met on the set of the 1991 movie, Mindwarp. They tied the knot that year and have been together since.
The actor was previously married to Christine Deveau from 1983 to 1989. They also had two kids together: daughter Rebecca and son Andy.
