The lawyer of rapper Lil Tjay is slamming "false rumors" that he was involved in the shooting of Migos cofounder Offset in Florida.

Rumors of the Bronx rapper's involvement began circulating online after news broke of Offset's shooting on Monday, April 6, outside of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. But his apparent lawyer, Dawn M. Florio, said in a statement posted to Instagram early Tuesday that the rapper born Tione Merritt "has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting."

Florio continued, "Any reporting to the contrary is false. We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting, before reflexively sharing or repeating baseless rumors."

Offset of Migos performs on stage at Power 105.1's Powerhouse 2014 at Barclays Center of Brooklyn on Oct. 30, 2014, in New York City.

Merritt was arrested Monday on charges of disorderly conduct (affray) and operating a vehicle without a valid license, according to Broward County Jail records viewed by USA TODAY. Seminole police also confirmed Merritt's arrest "in connection with the incident" that began with an affray, or fight, saying in a statement shared with USA TODAY that "Merritt was booked into the Broward County Jail late last night. A second person detained at the scene has not been charged."

A combined $3,000 bond has been set for Merritt's charges.
