Rutgers women's lacrosse gets NCAA Tournament win over Princeton

The Rutgers women's lacrosse team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, defeating Princeton 12-11 Friday at College Park, Md.

The 20th-ranked Scarlet Knights will go on to play No. 3 Maryland in the second round on Sunday at noon. The last time Rutgers won a tournament game was in 2022 against Saint Joseph's. The Scarlet Knights have never gotten past the second round in program history and have a tournament record of 3-3.

The game wasn't all sunshine for Rutgers. At one point, the Scarlet Knights held a five-goal lead. No. 16 Princeton had the ball looking to tie with under a minute left but Lily Dixon, a senior who's a Maryland native, forced a turnover that allowed the Scarlet Knights to run the clock out. Dixon had two assists.

Hilary Elsner led the Scarlet Knights with four goals. Caroline Ling scored a hat trick for Rutgers.

Trinity Hall graduate Haven Dora scored a goal and had four assists for Princeton.

In the first meeting between the two teams, the Tigers won the game after getting out to a fast lead and again scored first in the rematch. Rutgers responded with a three-goal run to held the lead the rest of the way.

At halftime, the Scarlet Knights led the game 8-4. Moorestown native Katie Buck boosted Rutgers at the draw and finished with seven controls - becoming the single-season program leader with 157 draw controls in 2026 season.
