Back in 2019, When Hope Calls, a spinoff of Hallmark Channel's uber-popular When Calls the Heartoriginal series premiered on Hallmark Movies Now (now rebranded as Hallmark+), the network's streaming service. The fate of the show and a possible second season sat in limbo for more than a year before Great American Family, an upstart network led by former Hallmark Channel CEO Bill Abbott picked up Season 2. The second season officially kicked off with a Christmas special back in 2021 and it wasn't until this year that we finally saw the rest of Season 2 with a largely new cast. Hopefuls, as fans of the show are called, won't have to wait another half decade for a third season! Parade is here to exclusively announce that Great American Family has picked up the show for Season 3!

Sporting a slightly altered name, Season 3 of When Hope Calls: Brookfield has set a broadcast premiere date of Sunday, Apr. 5 with early access to episodes for Great American Pure Flix subscribers on Thursday, Apr. 2. “We are delighted to continue the journey of When Hope Calls,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “This series embodies the heart, hope, and values that resonate so strongly with audiences and define our brand. With a stellar cast leading the way, we look forward to continuing to share inspiring stories from Brookfield that viewers love,” Abbott concluded.

What is When Hope Calls?

When Hope Calls originally followed the lives of two sisters, Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), who were reunited as adults after they were separated as children when their parents tragically died. Both went into orphanages, but only Lillian was adopted. When Lillian finds her sister after years of searching, the two move back to Lillian's adopted family's home in Brookfield to start their own orphanage.

In the second season of When Hope Calls, a relative of Lillian's takes over the orphanage while Lillian heads to England to care for her sister, Grace, after she experiences complications from her first pregnancy. We are also introduced to a new Mountie, who takes over for Mountie Gabriel Kinslow (Ryan-James Hatanaka) who is away on assignment.

Is When Hope Calls based on other material?

When Hope Calls is a spinoff series of When Calls the Heart, the popular period drama that airs on Hallmark Channel. When Calls the Heart is currently filming its 13th season. The original series is based on books by Janette Oke about a teacher who takes a position in a small Canadian town and eventually falls in love with the town's Mountie.

No word yet on when or if production has begun on Season 3 of When Hope Calls. Due to the location and heavy winter weather, if they haven't already begun filming, it's likely they won't start production until the spring. If they have started filming, they may break for the winter and resume again in the spring.

When did Season 2 of When Hope Calls premiere?

Season 2 of When Hope Calls premiered with a two-episode holiday special on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 on Great American Family. The rest of Season 2 premiered on their streaming platform, Great American Pure Flix on Thursday, April 3, 2025 with a linear broadcast premiere on Sunday, April 6, 2025.

What happened in Season 2 of When Hope Calls?

While the opening episodes pay homage to the romance of Lillian (Kohan) and Mountie Gabriel (Hatanaka), new characters are introduced that are seminal to the orphanage and children, the sprawling farms and ranchlands, and to the town of Brookfield. The townfolk welcomes a new Constable from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mountie Michael Fletcher (Christopher Russell) while Mountie Gabriel is away on assignment. As Lillian (Kohan) prepares to leave for London to help her sister Grace (Hudon) through a difficult pregnancy, a lawyer (Cindy Busby) shows up at the orphanage with a surprising secret.

Will Lori Loughlin return for season 3 of When Hope Calls: Brookfield?

While she appeared in the Christmas episodes of When Hope Calls, Loughlin did not return for the remainder of Season 2. There's certainly an opening for her character to return to Brookfield but for now, it doesn't appear that Abigail Stanton will be venturing a visit any time soon. Loughlin is returning to When Calls the Heart for a limited run in Season 14.

Busby has been acting since childhood with a notable role as Ashley Stanton on Canada's longest running series, Heartland. She has starred in several popular movies for the Hallmark Channel including Unleashing Mr. Darcy, Royal Hearts, and more recently, A Whitewater Romance.

Fun fact: Busby and Christopher Russell have appeared together in several movies including Love in the Forecast and Chasing Waterfalls

Russell is popular among viewers having starred in dozens of rom-coms over the years. His most recent credits include A Costa Rican Wedding and Operation Nutcracker. He also starred in the Great American Christmas movie, A Vintage Christmas.

Nick BatemanNick Bateman (Wyatt)

Nick Bateman joins the cast as Wyatt, a foreman who oversees the daily operations on a ranch recently inherited by Hannah Lawrence (Sarah Fisher) Bateman previously starred in the UPtv movie, A Winter Wedding, and has also appeared in A Christmas Miracle for Daisy, A Brush with Love, and Airplane Mode.

Fun fact: Bateman started karate when he was 4 because he wanted to be a Ninja Turtle, but has since gone on to nab four world titles in the sport! Cowabunga!

Sarah FisherSarah Fisher (Hannah Lawrence)

Sarah Fisher plays Hannah Lawrence, a woman who has inherited a sprawling ranch from her late uncle Ray. Wyatt (Bateman) oversees the day-to-day on the ranch. Fisher is best known for playing Becy Baker on Degrassi: The Next Generation. Her other credits include Heartland, A Harvest Homecoming, and Someone Like You.

Donovan guest starred in Season 2 as Constable Jim Reynolds, but will have a more prominent role in Season 3. Reynolds is an experienced Mountie who is known for his strong presence and skills in the field.

Jon McLaren takes over the role of Sam Tremblay, originally played by Marshall Williams. Other credits include Frankie Drake Mysteries, Titans, and Picture Perfect Romance. He also stars in another Great American Family series, Crossroad Springs.

Hutch guest starred in a couple episodes in Season 2 as Jerry Huntsman, a Land Man for a Chicago company looking to buy up land in Brookfield. He has a checkered past leaving Tess and the other farmers wary of his business dealings.

Tess owns the biggest ranch in town, a business she built with her late husband. She believes Lillian's adoptive father caused the accident that killed her husband and their relationship has been strained ever since.

Crewson has had a four-decade-long career acting in television and film. Her recent roles include recurring spots on Titans, Tracker, and Irish Blood.

A world traveler, Maggie hails from England and begins to work as a nurse when she finds herself in Brookfield.

Hanneke Talbot reprises her role as Maggie. Born in the Netherlands, the British-Canadian Talbot has guest-starred on Star Trek: Discovery, iZombie, Supernatural and Titans.

Jefferson Brown (Joe Moody)

Joe owns the local mercantile and back in Season 1, it looked like Maggie and Joe would be the town's next couple, but they do explain why the two haven't pursued a relationship in one of the early episodes of Season 2.

Brown currently stars in Hallmark Channel's The Way Home opposite Andie MacDowell and Chyler Leigh.

Ronnie owns the local hotel in Brookfield and always seems to have some get-rich-quick scheme up his sleeve. He's the brother-in-law to Tess.

Crone, a voice and character actor, has over 160 credits to his name. He is the voice of Gordon on Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go! series, Mayor Montagu on Corn & Peg and Ashton on Luna Petunia.

Eleanor looks over the orphanage and helps Lillian with the day-to-day of running of it. She has known Lillian since she was a child and was in her care.

Saunders has over 80 shows to her credit including roles on From, Orphan Black, Transplant, and Clarice. Like Crone, she has voiced many animated characters including Mrs. Turtle on Franklin and Dr. Caroline on Rescue Heroes.

Lucie is Tess' foreman and grew up with Chuck (Greg Hovanessian). She had hoped to spark a romance with him, but once she realized he only had eyes for Grace, she bowed out gracefully and the two remained friends.

Rob Stewart (Tom Clay)

Tom Clay is Lucie's father and fellow rancher. Lucie grew up learning the ranching business from him and is peeved when he hands over the reins to the family business to her brother. As an act of rebellion (and independence), she convinces Tess to hire her as her new foreman.

Stewart is best known for playing beach bum/private detective Nick Slaughter in Sweating Bullets. He was worked steadily over the years with roles in Mayor of Kingstown, The Way Home, and Zooey's Extraordinary Playlist.

Who's joining the cast of When Hope Calls: Brookfield in Season 3?

Jillian Murray (Justine Marcel)

Murray joins the cast as Justine Marcel, a talented investor and entrepreneur who arrives in Brookfield to meet with Hannah Lawrence (Fisher) about her latest fashion designs. But when her stagecoach is caught up in a robbery, Constable Jim Reynolds (Donovan) comes to her aid — igniting a spark neither of them could have anticipated.

Murray starred opposite Daniel Lissing in Christmas Keepsake for Great American Family. Her other credits include Code Black, An Unlikely Angel, and The Night Shift.

Who's not returning to When Hope Calls: Brookfield?

Lillian is the eldest of the two sisters and was adopted by a Brookfield family. Kohan reprises her role as Lillian for the first few episodes of Season 2 as she passes the torch onto the new Brookfield residents. She has had guest-starring roles on Batwoman, The Bold Type and Star Trek: Discovery. She has also starred in Love on Harbor Island and A Whirlwind Wedding. She currently stars in Sullivan's Crossing on The CW.

Fun fact: Kohan's favorite musical is Waitress.

The town's constable, Gabriel Kinslow was previously injured in the line of duty and he's sweet on Lillian. Hatanaka reprises his role as Mountie Gabriel in the beginning of Season 2. He also starred on The CW's Riverdale as Detective Abe Tamura and as Dr. Evan Wallace on NBC's Nurses. He is currently a series regular on Criminal Minds.

Fun fact: In his younger years, Hatanaka was a ball boy for the Toronto Blue Jays!

At the end of Season 1, Grace accompanies one of the orphans to England so that the child can be reunited with her grandfather. In reality, scheduling conflicts was the main reason Hudon was not able to return for the Christmas special. The absence of her character and Chuck Stewart was explained in the special with the two deciding to stay in England to open an orphanage there. After a guest starring stint on Chicago Fire, she was upped to series regular.

Chuck was the town's veterinarian and the son of local rancher, Tess Stewart (Wendy Crewson). It was love at first sight for him when Grace came to town. Hovanessian has had recurring roles on Netflix's Another Life and Hulu's Cardinal and more recently appeared in S.W.A.T. and FBI: International. He's also a fitness buff and likes to restore motorcycles.

While the character of Sam Tremblay is returning, Williams is not. Jon McLaren takes over the role as Sam. It's unclear why Williams isn't returning to the role, but it could be due to scheduling conflicts.

How many episodes will there be in season 3 of When Hope Calls: Brookfield?

There were a total of eight episodes in season 2 of When Hope Calls. Two episodes comprised the Christmas movie back in 2021 with six episodes comprising the rest of season 2. No official word yet on the number of episodes in Season 3, but we imagine it will have at least six episodes, but fingers crossed that Great American Media will pick up a full 10-episode order!

The show also has its own series of books. Written by When Calls the Heart author Janette Oke and her daughter, Laurel Oke Logan, the When Hope Calls book series delves deeper into the sisters’ backstory.

In Unyielding Hope , the first of three books in the series, we learn more about Lillian Walsh (played by Morgan Kohan in the TV series) and her search for her sister, Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), who Lillian had presumed to be dead all these years.
