Taylor Swift says her friendship with Abigail Anderson still runs on an old joke from their high school days. The pair talk in Napoleon Dynamite voices and have never stopped, which means Travis Kelce has to put up with it too. Not only did the singer share this detail during a Q&A, but she also demonstrated the voice for the laughing audience.

Taylor Swift shared the story during a conversation with “Toy Story 5” director Andrew Stanton and moderator Jessica Shaw in New York City. The event followed a screening of the film, when the singer, 36, tied her friendship to Bonnie and Blaze, two characters in the movie. Stanton had spoken about finding someone who shares your sense of humor, and Swift wanted to build on that.

“I’d love to pile on to what Andrew was saying about finding someone who’s the same genre as weird and silly as you are,” she said. She then went back to her move to Nashville at 14. As the new kid, she recalled sizing up who to befriend when Abigail came along.

“She even has curly hair, too, like Blaze — and the two of us, all we wanted to do was talk in Napoleon Dynamite voices,” Swift said. Their habit never faded. “And we still do this — and it’s something our husbands have to put up with,” she added.

Swift then imitated the husky voice of the title character, played by Jon Heder, as the audience laughed. Both friends are now married. Swift wed Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in New York City earlier this year. Anderson married Charles Berard in 2022, according to People.

Swift also described what the film meant to her. “When you find that person who just completely sees you for the strange, little genre that is you at your purest, that hit me so hard watching the film,” she said.

Notably, Swift wrote and recorded the original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for “Toy Story 5,” which was released in theaters in June.
