Tom Hanks reportedly slept through part of it.
That detail, sourced to guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding, has emerged as one of the more talked-about moments from a ceremony that was otherwise designed to be unforgettable. According to sources cited by RadarOnline, Hanks, 70, nodded off approximately five minutes into the couple’s vows. His wife, Rita Wilson, 69, seated beside him in one of the front rows, did not wake him.
“Rita Wilson didn’t wake him — she just let him sleep through it,” one attendee told RadarOnline. A separate guest said the moment was visible to those nearby. “No one wanted to interrupt the moment, but it was noticeable. Even some die-hard fans were struggling to stay focused by the end.”
Whether Hanks’ nap reflected exhaustion or simply the duration of the ceremony is an open question. The vows, delivered by both Swift and Kelce from matching gold-embossed books, reportedly ran to at least 20 minutes each. Combined, the exchange stretched to roughly 40 minutes. “It was beautiful, but incredibly long,” one guest said. “You could feel the room shifting after a while.”
The setting compounded the challenge for some attendees. The ceremony took place at a private estate in California before an estimated 800 guests — more people, it turned out, than the venue could comfortably seat. A significant portion of the crowd stood throughout. Refreshments during the ceremony were limited. Temperatures climbed and the vows continued.

Swift’s production instincts were evident in every other aspect of the event. A live string quartet performed instrumental arrangements of her catalog as guests arrived. A rotating lineup of performers — close collaborators, sources said — took the stage during the reception, with the set list kept confidential. Floral installations filled the space. Place cards were handwritten. The wedding cake drew on the visual palette of her “Lover” era.
Swift’s gown was custom-designed and, according to guests, incorporated references to different periods of her recording career. Kelce wore a tailored tuxedo with personalized cufflinks. Security was tight enough that phones were restricted throughout, though details have continued to surface through attendees in the days since.
The vows themselves, despite their length, drew defenders. “They were clearly meaningful to them, full of stories and promises,” one source said, acknowledging that the experience differed depending on where guests were standing. Another put it more directly: “It’s their wedding — if they want to speak for 40 minutes combined, that’s their moment. People just didn’t expect quite how long it would be.”
