If you haven't already, you're about to get very familiar with the Trionda over the next month.

The official 2026 World Cup match ball was first unveiled in October 2025, but it's finally set to get some in-game action when Mexico kicks off this year's tournament against South Africa at Estadio Azteca on Thursday, June 11.

The Trionda is a striking homage to the host countries, starting with the name itself: "Three waves," symbolizing the first time a single World Cup has ever been played across three nations. The ball also vibrantly dons the main colors of each flag on one of three panels to go along with a corresponding national symbol: a red maple leaf for Canada, green eagle for Mexico and a blue star for the United States. According to the FIFA website, "those three panels connect to form a triangle in the center of the ball in a nod to the historic union of the three host nations."

Then, there's the tech side.

FIFA touts the four-panel construction of the ball, a design it was able to take advantage of and build deeper seams into, "creating a surface that produces optimal in-flight stability by ensuring sufficient and evenly distributed drag as the ball travels through the air." The ball is also decorated in several small, embossed icons that can only be seen up close, in order to give players more grip when striking or dribbling in wet conditions.

The Trionda also features a 500Hz motion sensor chip that can assist the VAR system in real time when it comes to situations such as offsides, by "sending precise data." It also reportedly must be charged before every match.
