The disgraced film producer has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women and has been convicted twice in separate cases
Weinstein described life at Rikers Island as "hell" and claimed that he lives in isolation for his safety
Harvey Weinstein said his life has been "hell" while serving time in prison.
The disgraced film producer shared a rare update with The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published March 10 where he spoke about living in the New York maximum-security prison, Rikers Island.
“I just speak to the guards. And the nurses. That’s the extent of my socializing here,” Weinstein said. “There’s no socializing in my wing. Because it’s Rikers Island and it’s hell.”
Weinstein was transferred to Rikers Island from state prison in 2020, and he told the publication that he's been "begging" to go back.
His legal troubles began in October 2017 when more than 80 women accused him of sexual misconduct. He was formally charged in connection with two women's allegations in May 2018, and a jury found him guilty on charges of first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape in 2020. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison, but his sentence was overturned as the New York Court of Appeals ruled that the trial judge did not provide a fair trial, per The .
In June 2025, Weinstein, as part of a split verdict, was found guilty of one count of a criminal sex act related to a 2006 crime against former TV production assistant Miriam Haley. Meanwhile, Weinstein was also found guilty in California in 2022 on rape charges. He was sentenced to an additional 16 years behind bars. Now, Weinstein is awaiting retrial in a third case involving a criminal sexual act he allegedly committed against Jessica Mann.
So where is Harvey Weinstein now? Here’s everything to know about the disgraced former producer's life since his sentencing.
What was Harvey Weinstein accused of?

In October 2017, over 80 women accused Weinstein, who founded Miramax and later The Weinstein Company alongside his brother Bob Weinstein, of sexually assaulting and raping them. However, the 2018 prosecution focused on the charges brought by two women, per The New York Times: former production assistant Haley and aspiring actress Mann.
He was charged with two counts of rape, one count of criminal sexual act and two counts of predatory sexual assault. The New York jury found Weinstein guilty on two counts of criminal sexual assault, but not guilty on three other charges, which included predatory sexual assault.
Weinstein firmly denied the accusations, stating that his experiences with the women were consensual.
“While he was not convicted on the most serious charges, we are disappointed in the verdict and will be filing an appeal,” Weinstein’s lawyers, Donna Rotunno and Damon Cheronis, shared in a statement to PEOPLE following his 2020 conviction. “There are issues in this trial that were extremely troubling, and they prejudiced Mr. Weinstein’s ability to have his case fairly judged.”

Weinstein was initially sentenced to 23 years in prison in March 2020 in a New York court. He was later extradited to a Los Angeles court where he was charged with six new sexual assault counts, including three charges of forcible rape, in October 2020.
Two years later, the disgraced film producer was found guilty on one count of forcible rape, one count of forced oral copulation and one count of sexual penetration by a foreign object after the California jury deliberated for 10 days.
In February 2023, he was sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison after his 23-year sentence. During the trial, he continued to claim he was innocent.
"I maintain that I'm innocent. I never raped or sexually assaulted Jane Doe 1. I never knew this woman, and the fact is she doesn't know me. This is about money," Weinstein said in court ahead of his sentencing, according to CNN. "Please don't sentence me to life in prison. I don't deserve it."
The former producer's sentence of 16 years for the California charges stands.

Prior to the allegations, Weinstein had been married to Marchesa founder and designer Georgina Chapman since 2007. After he was accused of assault by dozens of women in October 2017, Chapman announced that she was separating from her husband, with whom she shares two children, India and Dashiell.

“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time,” Chapman said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time.
Chapman and Weinstein reached a divorce settlement worth $15-20 million in January 2018, a source told PEOPLE at the time. She also won primary custody of their children.
In May 2018, Chapman spoke out about the allegations against her ex-husband for the first time in an interview with Vogue, stating that she “never” knew of her husband’s alleged behavior.
“There was a part of me that was terribly naive — clearly, so naive. I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief! And I have moments when I just cry for my children,” she told the outlet. “What are their lives going to be? What are people going to say to them? It’s like, they love their dad. They love him. I just can’t bear it for them!”
Many critics pointed out that Chapman kept a purposely low profile after the allegations, canceling Marchesa’s runway show for their fall 2018 collection. She explained to Vogue that she used that period as a “time for mourning.”
“I was so humiliated and so broken . . . that . . . I, I, I . . . didn’t think it was respectful to go out. I thought, ‘Who am I to be parading around with all of this going on?’ ” she said. “It’s still so very, very raw. I was walking up the stairs the other day and I stopped; it was like all the air had been punched out of my lungs.”
The brand suffered following the allegations, but Chapman returned to the spotlight when she attended the Met Gala in May 2019, walking alongside Constance Wu, who wore a Marchesa gown.
In February 2020, PEOPLE confirmed that Chapman had moved on and was dating Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody. “She finds [him] to be an interesting person with a deep passion for his work that is similar to hers,” a source told PEOPLE a month later.
They made their red carpet debut a year later at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2021. The following month, Chapman and Weinstein finalized their divorce.

In April 2024, Weinstein’s 2020 conviction in New York was overturned after Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, claimed his client didn’t receive a fair trial. He alleged that the trial judge put Weinstein’s character on trial, rather than referring to evidence.
“Today’s decision is a major step back in holding those accountable for acts of sexual violence," Douglas H. Wigdor — who represented eight alleged victims at the New York criminal trial — told PEOPLE in a statement. "Courts routinely admit evidence of other uncharged acts where they assist juries in understanding issues concerning the intent, modus operandi or scheme of the defendant. The jury was instructed on the relevance of this testimony and overturning the verdict is tragic in that it will require the victims to endure yet another trial.”
In June 2025, after a split verdict, Weinstein was found guilty of one count of a criminal sex act in the Haley case. A judge denied his later request to appeal the conviction.

Weinstein will remain in jail due to his 2022 sexual assault convictions in California. Per Reuters, he was previously serving his 23-year sentence in a prison in upstate Rome, New York. Since 2020, Weinstein has been behind bars at the maximum-security prison Rikers Island in Queens, New York.
In his first major sit-down since moving to Rikers, Weinstein told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2026 that it was "hell" and he was living in "isolation." He further said that he was "begging" to be transferred back to Wende Correctional Facility or Mohawk Correctional Facility.
“I got up in the morning, I had breakfast, I saw friends, I spoke to people,” he recalled of his past state prison stays. “We all watched TV together. I’ve been begging to go to state, but the DA’s office says, ‘Because you have a trial upcoming, you stay at Rikers. We want to keep an eye on you.’ They kept an eye on me for 19 months now. I don’t know where they think I’m going.”
Weinstein is awaiting an upcoming retrial for a third count of a criminal sexual act relating to aspiring actress Mann. He further alleged that he has been the victim of violence at Rikers and claimed, "One time while I was waiting to use the phone, I asked the guy in front of me if he was done. He got off and punched me hard in the face.”
“I fell on the floor, bleeding everywhere,” he added. “I was hurt really badly. The cops asked me who had done it, but I couldn’t say. You can’t be a rat. That’s the law of the jungle.”
