Why Max Verstappen is out at F1 Monaco 2026 in just the first lap

A nightmare of a 2026 F1 season for Max Verstappen got even worse on Sunday in Monaco. The driver who came into the race seventh in the driver's championship standings was in the front row behind Kimi Antonelli, with maybe some hope to come out with a victory.

But when the lights went out, his car barely moved at the start. He eventually got going soon after that, but then he brought the Red Bull car into the garage and retired it for the rest of the race. That would be a DNF for the former world champion, giving him zero points.

UPDATE: Verstappen said he couldn't go full throttle with the car so he brought it back in.
