Wynonna Judd recently became a grandma again, but it wasn’t the warm-and-fuzzy family moment a grandparent hopes for.
The 62-year-old star — who is one half of the legendary country music duo The Judds — found out about her newest grandchild via social media. Her daughter, Grace Kelley, is currently serving a 15-month jail sentence. The two are estranged.
Kelley has a troubled history that includes drug addiction, and though Judd has tried to help her many times, the singer tells People in a new cover feature that her daughter cut off contact roughly a year ago.
“I miss her. I miss her desperately, and I’ve missed out on a lot of years because of the drug addiction,” Judd explains. “I’ve spent half a million dollars on programs trying to do the right thing, trying to do the next right thing. And meth is a b–ch. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.”
The “Mama He’s Crazy” hitmaker and her husband, Cactus Moser, legally adopted and are raising Kelley’s 4-year-old daughter, Kaliyah. The little girl recently became a big sister.

“I learned about it on TikTok,” Judd tells People of how she heard the news of her new grandchild. “Isn’t that crazy? I laid there, and I was shocked, just like you would imagine. And I cried and cried and cried and cried, because I have another grandbaby, I think.”
According to the outlet, Kelley, 30, was denied a temporary release to give birth in a hospital. She was due in mid-August. No other details are known — not even Judd knows what will happen with the baby.
“I’m heartbroken,” she admits, “so I’m walking a very interesting walk right now where I absolutely know very little.”
Judd is hopeful that her daughter will heal from her demons and reiterates that she loves her “dearly.”
Her People cover story is centered around her new album, The Hard Truth, which will be released Friday, October 2. She says the project is “raw and real” and draws from her life, which includes her painful relationship with her daughter.
