Evil Dead Burn unleashes the franchise's most cringe-inducing installment to date. And this is a series that's already known for its severed limbs and unflinching gore.

The plot for the supernatural/horror film follows widow Alice (Souheila Yacoub), a young woman grieving the loss of her husband, Will (George Pullar). Although Alice seeks solace with her in-laws at their secluded family home, they all have their own reasons to disassociate from her. The family gathering soon becomes a reunion to die for as the Book of the Dead unleashes the demonic Deadites onto them.

The only way to stop the Deadites is to disembowel them, just like in the original Evil Dead. This came after the Obsession costume designer spoke about the horror flick's "surreal" success.

• Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce spotted at CA airport ahead of JFK-inspired honeymoon

• Donald Trump begged not to act like a 'complete idiot for one day' amid humiliating error

Because Evil Dead Burn has the longest running time in the series, at nearly two hours, co-writer/director Sébastien Vaniček used editing and camera tricks to keep the film moving. The fast-paced dinner scene, in which Alice is verbally attacked by her mother-in-law, Susan (Tandi Wright), is edited with quick cuts.

When the deadites launch their attacks, the graphic violence is done in longer takes, and the shaky camera lingers on the chopped fingers a bit longer to make the audience go "yuck."

Yacoub has the most character development among the cast. Even the Deadites — the sole antagonists of the franchise — have motivation in the story, as they're looking for a missing dagger that physically harms them.

Wednesday actor Hunter Doohan is the surrogate Ash Williams (played by Bruce Campbell in the original) as Joseph — a nod to original Evil Dead composer Joseph LoDuca — who starts as a cowardly observer before becoming an active participant.

In a jaw-dropping scene, Joseph falls and lands against a pit of forks and knives. While his back is stuck to the sharp tips, Joseph's possessed girlfriend Thya (Luciane Buchanan) straddles him and licks his face.

In a standout one-er, Alice crawls across the floor, hyperventilating, while Joseph is tossed around the living room like a rag doll as his Deadite-possessed father beats him to a pulp.

This is a standalone sequel to the 2013 remake of The Evil Dead and its 2023 follow-up, Evil Dead Rise. The sixth installment in the Evil Dead film series is 10 times better than Evil Dead Rise, but nowhere near as much of a cult classic as the remake, which is the most faithful to the original.

Of the original three, Army of Darkness is still the funniest entry, and Evil Dead 2 is the series at its peak. What truly makes these latest installments work is that the original creative team, director Sam Raimi, producer Robert Tapert, and Campbell, are still involved as producers.

Make sure to stay till the end of the credits. There's a post-credits scene that ties the most recent installments together.

If you're really into the gore, Evil Dead Burn is the most gruesome installment in the long-running horror franchise.
